We are offering a very beautiful and seldom seen Explorer reference 5500, fitted with its original gilt dial. Early Rolex sports watches feature gilt dials, which have a glossy finish. The text and outer minute markers on these dials are a gold colour â hence the term gilt.
The colour is actually the brass dial base showing through, as the dials were printed with the text âin reliefâ. This watch is really cool and packs a punch far beyond its 34mm case size. The lume on the 3-6-9 is very clean and the gilt text is perfect. The case is in very good, strong overall condition. The rivet bracelet is a reference 6635, with stretch links and is in really great condition. The bracelet has 57 endlinks and clasp stamped â2/69â.
