Rolex Oyster Speedking Underline Dial Military Provenance Ref 6430
Often with vintage watches, the value of a piece goes way beyond the watch itself and is more about the provenance and life its led. This Speedking was worn by a gentleman with a distinguished military career.
The watch also has a special touch of a small underline on the dial, which was used to signify lesser radioactivity in the luminous mixture on the hour plots at the time that radium was being banned from use in watchmaking.
We bought this fella from the second owner , who was gifted this watch by a high ranked American Air Force officer.
The officer bought this watch in an Airforce exchange base in the 1960s while being in deployed in active duty in a foreign country.
In 1980 the watch was given as gift to the befriended Dutch Head of Nato base close to our office . Since then it was solely in his possession and sold to us with two other fine watches to us !
As this watch was most of its life worn on a pull -thru nylon strap by the owner we decided to pair it up with one of these as well!
The case is in great overall condition retaining thick lugs and a good bezel. The silver dial is in great condition and has the underline in the upper half below the SPEEDKING text. The lume has taken on a mustard hue which matches well with the lume in the beautiful dagger-form hands. The movement has been fully serviced by our watchmaker.
This is a very cool and interesting original owner watch. We think you should be the next custodiam for its next adventures!
